About
What is psychotherapy?
In Ontario, psychotherapy is a controlled act, performed under The Regulated Health professions Act, and regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
The title "psychotherapist" is legally restricted. This means that only certain individuals are able to perform the act of psychotherapy, and can call themselves “psychotherapists".
The official act of Psychotherapy is defined by the CRPO as:
“Primarily a talk based therapy intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life”
“I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counselling and Spirituality with a specialism in couple and family counselling, and an undergraduate degree in Human Relations. I have completed post-degree training in Emotionally Focussed Therapy, The Gottman Method (level two certified), Self-in-Relationship Psychotherapy, Sex Therapy, The Couple Institute Developmental Model and trauma informed practices.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (Registration # 008305) and an Associate Member of the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (Registration #2017750).
I have a passion for supporting the family, in whatever shape and form it takes. I believe that supporting parents as individuals, and in their couple relationship is key to helping the family thrive. I also recognize how hard these relationships, at times, can be.
I have over 10 years of experience facilitating Marriage and Parenting courses, as well as experience in past careers of finance and running my own catering business. I have been married for over 30 years and have three young adult children.”
